The Trimming Effects of a Tummy Tuck

You’ve tried cutting out carbs, joining a gym, even signing up for a local 5k, but you’re still carrying around that spare tire you’ve been trying to get rid of for years. We get it. Sometimes no matter how much you diet and exercise, that stubborn fat just won’t go away—especially around your belly. Well, there’s no need to sweat it anymore! Dr. Lisa J. Learn can perform an abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a tummy tuck.

Don’t Suck It In, Tuck It In

All you want is a trim, taut tummy, but if—even after all those sit-ups—you just aren’t getting the results you desire, we can help. You don’t have to hold your breath, wear a girdle, or suck it in—a tummy tuck is a stomach surgery that removes excess skin and fat, then pulls the remaining skin and muscles tight to jumpstart your quest for a flat six-pack set of abs. Any weakened or separated muscles can also be restored for a smoother and firmer look. Whether you’ve lost a lot of weight, just had your fourth baby, or are simply getting older, you can say farewell to the sagging skin on your abdomen and hello to the toned tummy of your dreams. If the skin we removed happened to have stretch marks—guess what? Solved that problem too. You might even end up with a reshaped belly button to boot!

From Flabby to Fabulous

Tummy Tuck SurgeryUnder general anesthesia, a tummy tuck typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Through two incisions, muscles are pulled together, re-contoured, and stitched into place. The skin is then stretched over top and the excess skin removed. This procedure is commonly combined with liposuction, which can address surrounding problem areas like those love handles and upper thighs. A snug elastic bandage will be used for protection and to promote proper healing. Ice packs can help to minimize pain and swelling. Plan on wearing loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily taken on and off. You may have to adjust your sleeping and sitting positions for comfort, as well. Recovery time can range from just a couple weeks to as much as two months. It is very important that you follow care instructions closely. Be sure to limit any strenuous activities for at least six weeks, and gradually return to your normal routine. A healthy diet and exercise program will help you to maintain your new trimmed-down look.
