Give Gravity the Boot with a Refreshing Facelift

Facelift Cosmetic Surgery Operation

It happens to all of us. As we age, the skin on our faces and necks naturally becomes loosened, and let’s face it—gravity is not our friend. Creases in the forehead become folds, cheeks evolve into jowls, and chins develop twins! Aging gracefully doesn’t mean you have to give in to gravity, though. If your youthful appearance is fading and you are noticing the inevitable signs of age, you may want to consider a facelift procedure to stop the sagging in its tracks!

Heading South?

Yes, we live in the South, but no one wants their skin and muscle tone to head that way! There are many reasons behind losing your youthful contours. You could blame your parents for passing along an inherited gene. Maybe you have too much stress in your life or you’ve taken in too much Florida sun. Perhaps you’re simply getting older and gravity is taking its toll. While a facelift can’t stop the aging process, it can help to keep your skin from heading in an unfavorable direction.

The Ultimate Pick Me Up

Also known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift can provide subtle to dramatic results, decreasing the signs of age. An incision is made at the temples, around your ear and to the lower scalp, conveniently hiding beneath the hairline and the natural creases of your face and ears. Your skin is gently lifted and pulled tighter while underlying muscles and tissues are carefully re-positioned and re-contoured. Excess skin is removed and fat is removed or redistributed. This is done under anesthesia—just think, you’ll sleep peacefully and wake up without wrinkles!

Recovering from Your Youthful Restoration

You should expect some swelling and bruising, which typically subsides within a week or two. There may be some pain, but medication can help. Cold compresses relieve pain and inflammation as well.  A topical antibacterial medication may also be prescribed to protect against infection. You will need to keep your head elevated when lying down and avoid as much activity as you can. If a drainage tube was inserted for the procedure, it is usually removed in a day or two. A dressing may be placed over the sutures to protect the area. This too is typically removed within a couple of days, while the sutures themselves are removed anywhere from 5 to 10 days. Full recovery time can take two to three weeks.

A Little Extra Help

While a facelift can do wonders to restore your youthful look, it can’t completely turn back the clock, much less stop it. Fortunately, there are other supplemental procedures that can provide additional help. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can correct droopy lids that make you look tired. A browlift can help with that as well. Chemical peels can rejuvenate your skin, and facial fillers can reduce wrinkles even further.  In addition, a necklift will aid in making your neck look as young and vibrant as your face.

Everyone wants to look their best, and your face is the first thing people see. Signs of aging can have a negative effect on your confidence and how you feel about yourself, but by improving how you look, you will also improve how you feel—and that’s a beautiful thing.
