Are chemical peels safe?

Chemical Peel Procedure

Chemical peels remove the damaged outer layer of your skin to reveal the new, healthier and younger-looking layers below. Generally, it is a perfectly safe beauty treatment. However, it’s important to know that not every type of peel is right for every skin type.

There are three different levels of chemical peels:

Light or mild – these remove only the top layers of skin for a smoother, brighter appearance. They have very little side effects, but may require multiple treatments to achieve the results you want.

Medium – these go a little deeper and have a greater impact on reducing wrinkles, however they also have a greater risk for sensitivity to the sun and other complications.

Deep or phenol peels – these take off several layers and have a more dramatic result, but may be too strong for some skin types, yielding a higher risk of discoloration and scars.
