Sleeping Beauty Has Nothing on You: The Benefits of Sleep

Comments (0)

The Benefits of SleepEver notice what beautiful skin Sleeping Beauty has? What’s her secret? Well, sleep of course! Yes, beauty rest is for real. How many ZZZZs you catch really does affect your skin health. If you skimp on sleep it typically shows in the form of dark circles, bags under your eyes, and lack-luster skin tone. However, the effects go much deeper than that. When you’re asleep your body is actually still hard at work. This is the time when hormones are released, repairing damage, healing tissues, and replacing old cells with new, healthy ones. Cutting your sleep short doesn’t allow enough time for these hormones to do their thing. In addition, lack of sleep often adds to your stress level and that tension translates into wrinkles and even break-outs—there is no way we want those! So here are some tips to get the beauty rest you need:

Make a relaxing bedtime routine and stick to it. Cleanse your face and moisturize it, slip into some comfy P.J.s, and try to hit the hay and rise and shine at the same time each night and day—even on the weekends. Ideally, you should shoot for 7-9 hours of sleep each time you climb in bed. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and heavy meals before settling in, and be sure to drink plenty of water, eat healthy, and get regular exercise.

Follow these guidelines for a good night’s sleep and you’ll be on your way to not only feeling great and energized, but looking that way too. Sorry, Sleeping Beauty, your secret’s out!
